Day Trips on local rivers
A typical day trip on a local river or on the sea would be around four to eight miles, depending upon the ability of the group and the water conditions. However, as you will see from our diary of events, our River Trips cover a wide range of recreational paddling. The club has a variety of boats and equipment to hire.
Throughout the year we paddle local rivers like the Thames, Wey, Mole and Medway.
Weekend Trips, White water paddling & Sea trips
Four or five times a year we organise weekend trips, either camping or staying in budget accommodation. Trips in the last few years have included, canoe camping on the Thames, white water paddling in Devon and Wales, touring the River Wye and sea kayaking on the south coast, including Dover, Brighton and Littlehampton.
Go Canoeing & British Canoeing Training/ Assessment Days
Other activities are also arranged such as our annual “Go Canoeing” event, our “Come and try it sessions” or our “Training days“, We also participate in activities with other canoe clubs e.g. the “Carboard boat race” as well as taking part in other British Canoeing events, Open Canoeing Association events, and our local Purley Festival.
On the last Wednesday of each month Purley Canoe Club has a social evening in Purley This provides an opportunity for Club members to get together and share their paddling stories or just have a drink with friends. It is also our venue for our annual presentation of the Club’s Touring award which is presented to the adult and junior member who paddles the most miles in a year.
